Norfolk Academic Guild is a homeschool collective providing a classical model framework to educate our students through group classes and at home. We facilitate education for three age groups: elementary, middle school, and high school. We gather twice weekly for long-form classes in humanities and sciences, and short-form classes or seminar-style topics like economics, philosophy, and current events.
Our students learn across the curriculum, both in their own homeschools and as part of Norfolk Academic Guild. Coaches and parents teach traditional classes in their academic fields, in a cooperative environment. Rigorous academic classes challenge our students, Beta Club and Girl Scouts inspire them to grow and serve, and fine arts experiences expand their horizons. Rotational, peer-led, passion-focused sessions give students experience in researching and presenting topics, practice in public speaking, and synthesizing personal learning with a collective knowledge base.
Norfolk Academic Guild students enjoy fellowship and camaraderie participating in quiz bowl tournaments at elementary through high school levels, regional and national events. Quiz bowl tournaments teach great skills beyond the acquisition of academic knowledge: listening, logic, dedication, stress management, teamwork, stamina, and recall.
